Safecom offers a full site hosting service, including management of web servers. Our servers are hosted in a purpose built data centre (SecureIP in Alexandria) and are fully maintained 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Safecom staff. The environment provides extremely high security, large bandwidth links and enables us to offer a wide range of Internet services.

The site was specifically selected because of the high bandwidth access provided by a number of telecommunications providers, including Telstra, Optus and MCI, facilitating “open” bandwidth. This allows clients to burst up to the total capacity of the Hosting facility and is especially useful during special campaigns or peak load times.

The other key features of the site are the extensive security and high availability configuration we provide. This allows us to host sensitive applications. The data centre is a secure and robust operating environment from which business critical Internet applications can be operated with total confidence. We combine a sophisticated power filtering system (with UPS battery and diesel generator backup) to ensure constant reliable power to every system. A leading environment management system guarantees that all hardware operates in an optimal temperature, humidity and airflow environment. In the unlikely event of fire, the data centre is equipped with a VESDA smoke and fire control system.

Our data centre network has been meticulously designed using an architecture that can continue to operate at full capacity even if multiple system failures are experienced simultaneously. The fault resistant architecture extends beyond our own internal network, including the connection methodology linking us to telecommunications service providers. Our data centre has multiple links to multiple service providers and can dynamically re-route traffic in the event of a failure within the service providers network. Furthermore each link is of a size that is capable of handling the total data centre traffic load.

Every server solution has been carefully designed by our team of skilled engineers to meet the best combination of performance and fault tolerance, to meet the client’s needs. To do this we combine technologies such as multi level RAID, Clustering, Load Balancing and Storage Area Networks with Fault Tolerant hardware. This includes features such as error correcting memory, redundant hot swap power supplies, hot swap disks and multiple network interfaces.

We do not believe that an adequate level of network security can be provided to every customer using the same set of router, switch and firewall configuration rule sets. Safecom creates a specific security environment for each customer’s applications, by combining the appropriate Intrusion Detection, Firewall, Routing and Switching configuration to suit the application being hosted. Once created the configuration is constantly tuned and maintained to ensure the maximum level of security is provided.

Safecom provides complete 24 hours per day, 365 days per year monitoring and management of all applications, servers and network infrastructure under our control. The complete cost of all these services is included in the monthly hosting fee. We understand that the network, servers and application systems require regular maintenance and that in most cases it is unacceptable to conduct these activities during normal business hours. That is why we schedule our maintenance out of hours and during a period of least disruption to our clients. We have technicians available to conduct these activities at no additional cost to our customers.

Safecom uses only the “Best of Breed” software and hardware to support each customer’s applications. We combine the best products from companies such as Compaq, Cisco, Sun, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Allaire, Lotus, IBM and Computer Associates to build a highly stable operating environment in which we run our customers’ applications.
